CULTURE AND TRADITIONS IN BULGARIA - LEARNING BY DOING TEACHING METHOD
Easter (in Bulgarian Великден; Velikden – Great Day) is a traditional celebration - a mix of Christian and pagan rituals, delicious thematic food and four days off at the beginning of the spring.
Easter eggs are dyed on Maundy (Holy) Thursday or Holy Saturday. The first red egg dyed on Holy Thursday is a symbol of health and good fortune for the family and is set aside to be kept until next Easter. On this day Bulgarians make Easter cookies and Kozunak/traditional Easter sweet bread, symbolizing the body of Jesus.
The egg is a symbol of rebirth, adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus at Easter.
Then when the family gathers together, starts “egg Tapping”. Opponents smash their eggs into each other. The person with the egg left unbroken is proclaimed the winner. The winning egg is kept until next Easter and is a sign of good luck.

March - Bulgaria
Stefan Zahariev Primary School Kindergarten Group and their teachers, Slavka Todorova and Ayse Alendar, preparing for the 1st of March celebration
March 3th The liberation of Bulgaria covers the events related to the restoration of the Bulgarian statehood after almost five hundred years of Ottoman rule. This happened as a result of the national Revival, which led to the recognition of the Bulgarian Exarchate and to the organization of the April Uprising. The uprising prompted Russia to start the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878).
